21 December 2014 – Members’ festive day at Ingrow Loco Museum
Some festive cheer will be available Society members. The draw for the raffle will also be made. An opportunity to meet fellow members and catch up on progress with the current projects at Ingrow.
Unfortunately an important announcement about one of our engines which was to have been made on July 20th 2014 has had to be delayed; it is hoped to make it now on Sunday 30th August 2014.
As announced in Journal No.82 – this year’s AGM is to be held at Ingrow on 21 June.
Visits planned for locomotives this year are: Nunlow to the Hope Cement Works, and the Coal Tank to Barrow Hill roundhouse. See the Journal for further details.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Prize Draw will now take place at Ingrow on Sunday 15th December and not at Oxenhope as originally planned. Festive refreshments will be available to members who are able to attend.
Plans for the 10th anniversary of the opening of Ingrow Loco Museum are beginning to take shape. The proceedings will commence at midday with the EGM and AGM, notice of which all members should have received.
At about 2-45, and weather and operational conditions permitting, there will be a flypast by aircraft (Spitfire and Hurricane) from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.
This will be followed by a presentation by the Heritage Lottery Fund of a plaque to recognise the successful completion of the HLF funded project to overhaul the LNWR Coal Tank.
At 4.00 pm there will be a 45 minutes of verse, songs and readings, all of which are railway related and align with the themes covered in the Museum displays.
The evenings entertainment will continue at 7.00 pm by songs from the folk group ‘Live Steam’, the band who helped celebrate the opening of the museum 10 years ago, and who also performed at the Society’s 21 birthday party at Dinting in 1988. The band members are all volunteers with the Furness Railway Trust. There will be a break for a hot-pot supper at about 8.00 pm and the evening will end at about 10.00 pm.
However, while all this is going on, Bahamas will be on display outside, and floodlit during the evening, for the benefit of photographers who wish to capture images of the engine before it is dismantled ready for the overhaul.
And if all this isn’t enough, members will have be able to ride on the KWVR, (please have your membership card with you!), and also sample a specially brewed beer ‘The Yorkshire Jubilee’, created especially to support Bahamas.
– END –
All members should have received a letter from John Hillier, our Marketing and Publicity Officer, which gives the excellent news that we have been awarded a grant of £775,800 towards the overhaul of Bahamas, by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The letter also contained more information, on that previously mentioned in the Journal, of the ‘Words, Songs and Sounds’ event to be held in the Museum at Ingrow on 18th May. We are expecting this to follow the Annual General Meeting. All members are invited to attend this event which is being held to celebrate 10 year since the Ingrow Loco Museum was opened for visitors. This page will be updated as and when more information becomes available.
